Going Green Means Green for Region 15

The SAI Greater New York Region 15 will make some some green when you go green!  Green energy, that is! Thank you for taking a few minutes to learn more about this exciting fund raiser that benefits you, the Region, and the environment.

New Jersey and several other states recently deregulated its utilities. This means that consumers can choose their energy supplier. My husband and I chose Viridian as our energy supplier for both our primary Morris County, N.J., residence and our shore home. Our energy will still be delivered by JCP&L, we will still be billed by JCP&L, and any problems will be taken care of by JCP&L. The only difference is that JCP&L will be buying energy from Viridian instead of the (historically higher-priced) supplier it used exclusively, without competition, for years. There is no enrollment fee, no long-term contract, no penalty for cancellation.

We chose Viridian because it is committed to offering low-cost, green energy and supporting non-profit organizations like the Greater NY Region 15. Customers (including vacation homes and commercial properties) in NJ, PA, CT, and MD are currently eligible. NY state’s Con Ed customers have this choice beginning February 14, 2011.

If you decide to enroll have a recent bill handy. NJ residents will need their 20-digit customer number. Con Ed customers will need their 15-digit account number.

You will have a choice of Rate Plans. The Everyday Green Rate Plan uses 20% renewable energy and has the potential to save you the most money. The Pure Green Rate Plan uses 100% windpower and is the most 'green', but more expensive, choice.

The information is available on the web site. Be aware that Viridian’s rates fluctuate, just like JCP&L or PSE&G's (or your utility’s) rates but have historically been lower than theirs. There are no guarantees, but you can cancel at any time.
